1. Altering the Licensed Image
The foundation of the cover began with a carefully selected, licensed underwater photograph. This original image was then modified to better align with the emotional tone of the story.
2. Rotating for Narrative Tension
To reflect the book's themes of emotional inversion and psychological suspense, the image was rotated.
3. Composite Editing & Visual Enhancements
Several advanced Photoshop techniques were employed to deepen the visual complexity:
Generative Fill extended and enriched the image background to create breathing space for typography.
Blending and texture work were used to harmonize light and shadows, ensuring the image felt continuous despite digital edits.
Layered adjustments and composite masking refined the subject’s interaction with her environment, allowing the figure to appear more submerged and ethereal.
4. Typography & Juxtaposition
For the title and author’s name, the clean and modern Acumin Pro typeface was chosen for its clarity and elegance. The word “WIDE” was spaced with generous kerning, while “ASLEEP” remained compact and grounded—intentionally playing on visual tension and thematic contrast, just as the rotated and manipulated imagery does.
